Advocates, plans, coordinates linkages with agencies, monitors and evaluates programs in aging. Priority is given to seniors 60+ years old who are in the greatest financial and social need.
The Elderly Affairs Division, a division of the Department of Community Services of the City and County of Honolulu, has been the designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Oahu since 1973. AAAs address the needs and concerns of older adults at the local level. They 1) create plans for service development, 2) provide information on program policies affecting seniors and advocate for improved services, 3) coordinate and administer Older Americans Act and other funds.
EAD direct services include:
-Senior Helpline (768-7700) for phone and in-home consultations; information & referral to services; Outreach and Education- aging services brochures, caregiver books, video lending library, community presentations, info booths/exhibits.
EAD contracts with local agencies to provide home and community based services to seniors and caregivers. These services are intended to help older adults maintain wellness and independence and to assist those who cannot live at home without assistance from family and/or formal services. Examples include personal care, home delivered meals, group dining meals, caregiver support and respite, recreation/leisure/physical fitness, case management, attendant care, housing assistance, transportation, health maintenance, homemaker services and legal assistance.
Target group: elderly (60+), disabled (18+), caregivers, but open to the public
Eligibility: no restrictions.
